The Sweet Potato Island

Camotes Island (Camotes means Sweet Potato in Filipino dialect) is a small island in the coast of Cebu Island, Philippines. A beautiful island without the throngs of tourist, it is certainly a very exciting place to go to.

How to go there and where to stay: Upon arriving in Cebu city, hop on a taxi and tell him to drive you to the van terminal to Danao City in SM Mall. He will directly drop you there. If you're still confuse look for a sign somewhere. The ride to Danao city cost $1.50-2.00. The van will stop in a market place, go towards the main road or highway and look for the nearest port. Upon, going there, inquire about the boats that will go to Camotes Island. The boat trip will cost you around $6-7.00 that can be quite uncomfortable. Always go to the 2nd floor of the boat since it is the least uncomfortable.

Upon arriving in the port, there are motorbikes with drivers that will take you to wherever you want to stay. There is the San Francisco bay where there are lots of places to choose but the beach is usually more populated. Mangodlong Rock Resort is also nice but a bit pricey (like $25-40/night) And there is the Bakhaw beach where we stayed. The whole beach was virtually almost all to ourselves. The place where we stayed was $20/night. It is a cottage and they can cook meals for you there.

What to do:
Visit the Danao lake (one of the largest lakes in the Philippines)

Enjoy Bakhaw beach

Eat Seafood in San Francisco Bay (We only paid $4 for our meal)

Visit Mangodlong

Swim in one of the cave spring near Bakhaw beach. (It's nice dip for a hot day)
