JENNIFER Lopez admits her career resurgence “just kind of worked out”.
The singer and actress — who’s back in the spotlight thanks to her judging gig on American Idol — says she didn’t plan to make a comeback.
“It wasn’t some grand master plan we had — it just kind of worked out that way,” Lopez said.
“I was working on a record, looking at some films. The American Idol thing was offered to me months and months before. I really wasn’t considering it. They came back again. Then I started thinking about it.
“I’m proud of the things I have done over the years. Whether they’ve had the biggest commercial success or not, I still feel like I’ve been on a journey and I’ve been growing and evolving, and that’s exciting.”
Lopez recently dismissed critics who claim that she is not a good singer, because she has finally come into her own and let go of doubts she had about her shortcomings.
“I’m very proud of who I am as a vocalist from where I started,” she said. “The voice was always there, I was just so insecure about it in the beginning.”
Lopez also credited husband Anthony with helping her to let go of her hang-ups about her musical talent and encouraging her as she recorded her upcoming album.
“Marc helped me so much because he was the one who was like, ‘You have a beautiful voice,’” she recalled.
“I think people are gonna be surprised with some of the vocals on this album. There’s even songs on this album that when he heard the demo, he was like, ‘You’re gonna sing that?’ When he heard my version, he was like, ‘Wow.’ Tears in his eyes. ‘I’m so proud of you.’”
